1. Who we are

The Dopamine Doc (“we”, “our”, “us”) is an independent publication operated by Dr. Nirosh, MBBS, a physician registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (registration number 48812). The website is accessible at https://thedopaminedoc.com.

We can be contacted at drnirosh@thedopaminedoc.com. Dr. Nirosh is the data controller for the purposes of this policy.

This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Please read it alongside our Medical & Investment Disclaimer.

2. No doctor–patient relationship

Content on this website is published for general education only. Reading it, subscribing to updates, or emailing us does not create a doctor–patient relationship, and nothing here is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Articles about markets, saving or investing are behavioural commentary and are not financial advice. Always consult a qualified professional about your own situation.

Please do not send us detailed personal health information, test results or images by email. Email is not a secure channel and we cannot treat it as confidential clinical correspondence.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Information you give us

  • Contact details — your name and email address if you email us or submit a form.
  • Comment data — the name, email address and comment text you submit, plus your IP address and browser user-agent string, which WordPress records to help with spam detection.
  • Subscription details — your email address if you sign up for updates.

3.2 Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our server and our analytics and advertising partners record technical information each time a page is loaded. This includes your IP address, browser type and version, operating system and device type, the pages you viewed and how long you spent on them, the referring page or search term that brought you here, and your approximate location at country or city level. This data does not directly identify you by name.

3.3 Information we do not collect

We do not knowingly collect health records, medical history, payment card details or government identification numbers. Our calculators run entirely in your browser — the height, weight, age and lifestyle figures you enter are never transmitted to our server and are not stored by us.

4. How we use your information

  • To publish, operate and secure the website.
  • To reply to your enquiries and to moderate comments.
  • To send updates you have explicitly asked to receive.
  • To understand which articles are read, so we know what to write next.
  • To display advertising, which is how the site is funded.
  • To detect spam, abuse and attempted attacks on the site.

5. Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use them in three ways:

  • Essential cookies — set by WordPress to keep the site functioning, for example to remember your comment details or keep an administrator signed in.
  • Analytics cookies — used to count visits and understand which pages are useful.
  • Advertising cookies — set by Google and its partners to select and measure the ads shown to you.

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working; blocking advertising cookies will not remove ads, but the ads you see will be less relevant.

6. Google AdSense and third-party advertising

This website uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. The following disclosures apply:

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may use cookies, web beacons or similar technologies to collect information about your visit in order to measure and target advertising.
  • We do not control these third-party cookies and we do not have access to the information they collect.

Your choices:

7. Consent for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent notice is presented before advertising and analytics technologies are loaded. You may accept all purposes, reject them, or set your preferences for individual purposes and vendors. Your choice is recorded and respected, and you can change it at any time using the cookie preferences link in the site footer. Rejecting personalised advertising does not prevent you from reading the site.

8. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address to generate reports on visitor numbers, traffic sources and page popularity. We do not use it to identify individual readers. Google’s practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy, and you may opt out entirely using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

9. Server log files

Our hosting provider automatically records standard server logs, including IP addresses, browser type, referring pages, timestamps and pages requested. These logs are used to diagnose faults, monitor performance and investigate security incidents. They are not linked to any personally identifiable information and are retained on a rolling short-term basis by the host.

10. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers needed to operate the site — our web host, our advertising and analytics providers, our email delivery provider and our spam-filtering service — and only to the extent each requires to perform its function. We may also disclose information where we are legally obliged to do so.

11. Your rights

11.1 If you are in the EEA or the UK (GDPR)

You have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to request erasure, to restrict or object to processing (including profiling for advertising), to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing are your consent (for advertising, analytics and email updates) and our legitimate interests (for site security and fault diagnosis).

11.2 If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and for what purpose, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information as that term is commonly understood. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address in section 14. We will not discriminate against you for doing so.

11.3 If you are in Sri Lanka

Where the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022 applies, you may exercise the access, correction and erasure rights it provides by contacting us at the address in section 14.

11.4 How to make a request

Email drnirosh@thedopaminedoc.com with the subject line “Privacy request”. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm the email address associated with your data before we act.

12. Children’s privacy

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13, and our content is not directed at children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

13. Data retention and security

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies can be recognised and displayed. Email addresses collected for updates are retained until you unsubscribe. Enquiry emails are retained for as long as needed to handle the matter and for our records.

The site is served over HTTPS and access to the administrative dashboard is restricted and password-protected. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Links to other websites

Articles may link to third-party websites, including trading platforms, product pages and medical resources. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. This policy applies only to thedopaminedoc.com. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit from here.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The revision date at the top will always reflect the current version. Material changes will be announced on the homepage. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
